500 elm runs slow and sluggish

What causes my 500 ELM to run sluggishly? At times it takes 5 or 6 seconds to completely advance the film. It just grinds very weakly. Batteries are new and not the problem.

Most likely the winder motor does not get the full power from the batteries.
Check for bad contacts of the battery box and fuse.

A worn winder motor is another but less likely possibility.

Guessing: maybe the grease in the gear train of the motor has turned into stiff goey?

I've cleaned a number of EL* motors and some became a lot more lively after cleaning.
