501CM Shooter Visits A HD4-40 Rollout Event

As a dedicated 501CM shooter, I went to a HD4-40 rollout event in Gaithersburg, Maryland yesterday to see/hold the new camera. Despite years of advertising, no dealer in my area has ever had a new H camera in stock to touch.

The feel of the new camera is profoundly different than the simple shape of my V. Your hand is forced to a single position and there is much more or a feeling of operating a computing device rather than a camera. Most of the demo was about Phocus and its capabilities as if the "capture device" wasn't all that important. This is the world of digital photography.

Of course, I've used and now use digital cameras. I have digital P&S camera and my phone for snapshots, but I still love the process and feel of using a manual film camera for "real" photography. I love going in the darkroom and developing/printing. My opinion was reinforced after playing with the H camera.

So, for me, the process of photography as I know it will continue to be film based. To each his (or her) own - my mind and heart weren't changed yesterday. I know I'm in a shrinking minority, but it is my art being made, and that is as personal as it gets.

Cheers,
Mike

No hate at all here - just my personal preference. Everyone is entitled to use whatever tools they find best suits their style and work processes.
