Back to the Future

Gary,
I have a superb 110FE f2 lens that will be listed as soon as the 203FE + CFV offered in the Classifieds here finds a new home. :)

If you want a CFV as well ~ you've found everything you need.
Gary

Hi Gary,

Well, I've already got a CFV (II) which I purchased with the 503CW and 40mm CFE IF (great package price).....I guess I just need the 203/205 and 110/2 now! It's always something, right?

So what's next for you....a Lecia S2 or H4D60?

Actually, after scanning some Velvia 100 on my Epson V750 Pro last night and marveling at the results.....I'm adding a Flextight X1 or X5 scanner to my wish list for Santa this year. Anyone got one of these for sale?

Gary

Sorry, only an Imacon 848. :))

Take the 203FE & the CFV and the 110Fe and just sell what you don't need ....... the 500 and the CFV ....... Ha !

(...). The remaining CFi and CFE lenses will go piece by piece.

I am keeping the entire H system, and am investigating replacing most all of my 35mm DSLR systems (Nikon and Sony) with a Leica S2.

I recently neared completion of the M kit with a M9, 24/1.4 ASPH and Noctilux 0.95 ASPH added to the other M lenses I already have.

Interesting times.

.
If any 203FE are for sale do not forget to write me.
I have the M8 and 21mm 4.5 biogon and 35mm summilux. Very hapy with the 1.4, I expected to buy the 21mm 1.4 for my M8 but it's very expenssive. I wait for my M9 so I will have about the same view with my 35mm for the same cash.

I use to compare in the shop the 21mm 1.4 Leica to the Biogon Zeiss (21mm 4.5) and found the biogon better at 4.5

BTW once I made the same picture with a 35mm with the M8 and with the Hasselblad with a 110mmat 5.6, then the Hasselblad (and Velvia 50) was better in resolution.

The 21 Biogon doesn't surprise me Paul ... the M 21/1.4 ASPH is optimized for wider apertures and is astounding for a f/1.4 optic. Nor does the Hassey film shot verses the crop frame 10 meg M8.

The M9 may reveal a different result ... and the M21 & M24/1.4 ASPH lenses comes into their own on the M9 with a true field of view that was paid for.

Speaking of astounding, I just completed a test between the last model of the M 50/1.0 Noctilux verses the new M 50/0.95 ASPH. Leica optical engineers have outdone themselves.
Better subject clarity and separation of the subject matter wide open, and near the equal of the 50/1.4 ASPH from f/1.4 on up! Most expensive lens I ever secured for the gear closet .... but unequalled on the M9 by anything in the 35mm digital world.

The fate of my V gear may settle in with my keeping the 203FE system and all it's lenses if it doesn't sell as a complete system. I do not relish the notion of selling it piecemeal.
And unlike digital systems, I doubt it will devalue If I kept it another few years ... it is a masterful and timeless design.

All of that hinges on S2 explorations ... which I am doubting now that I have investigated it deeper. I'll have one in hand to test soon, and that will be the deciding factor.

Regardless, I will upgrade to the new H4D/60 which may well diminish the S2s chances if the new H4D AF system proves to be as advertised. Another stroke of genius from the house of Hasselblad.

Marc it seems that the Noctilux f0.95 is an amazing design and execution. If I recall correctly, even the last Noctilux f1.0 did not fully reach the performance of any other Leica 50mm at any aperture - although no one should complain because any buyer would expect very different drawing characteristics.
But I did read elsewhere from a credible source that the f0.95 does reach the performance of the current f1.4 at some point in the aperture range - AMAZING!

I bet that front element looks a treat.

I remember that the Canon adapted M mount 50mm f0.95 front element was mind-blowingly big - a little "creamy" in the glass's colour though and never really sharp at any aperture. My Canon f1.2 will do the job for me!

PS I must say I'm dying to get my hands on the CFi 3,5/100 down here!

Marc,

What does the S2 have (well, promise) that you cannot get from your H-series? I'd call pouring $$ in the S2 a rather steep (understatement...) investment in yet another MF-ish DSLR system. Especially now that your are rationalising your different camera systems I mean.

Please enlighten me?

I've had the 2.8, 2.0 and now the 1.4 summilux asph. witch I saw is the best of them. The new 0.95 seams better on charts.
Anyway I will not buy this one.
Not new
Not now
...Yes I said no.

:)

The is an old tale that says the gift of life is to own each 50mm Leica M lens makes!

I treasure my Summicron-M 50mm as one of the "prettiest" image makers I have ever used. I cannot fault it.

Now for the first time the Summilux-M ASPH reaches the Summicron's performance at about f2.8 - f4! A stellar performer.

When I bought my M7 the first lens I bought was the 35mm - on the "advice" that 35mm is the optimal street lens. I trialed the pre Summicron-M ASPH but found its barrel too small for my fingers which annoyed me. Then I handled the ASPH version which is slightly larger in diameter and length and felt much better.

While the ASPH is brilliantly sharp I think I find it too contrasty - especially compared to the earlier lens.

Now that Zeiss has entered the M mount game, I think I'd trial their 35mm because I suspect Zeiss is less aggressive with contrast.

In the 6x6 Hassy line-up, what has always appealed to me is that despite how razor sharp their best lenses are (eg 60mm Distagon and 180mm Sonnar) they are not heavy on contrast. They draw beautifully natural images.
