Black 135mm F5.6 S-Planar

Hi All,
I'm considering a mint Black 135mm F5.6 S-Planar to go on my new Manual Bellows. Has Front Chrome Ring, as in the early brochure I have. Serial number is 4735372; What is the date of the lens? Like-new condition, with original front and rear (extended) caps.

What are your experiences with this beauty? I'm quite sure I would love to use it :)

S-Planar 135 mm 4735372

This S-Planar lens was made in 1969.
That makes it a lens without T* coating.
T* coating for these lenses is not essential.
It will be quite difficult to see any difference between T* and non T * lenses for this purpose.
A good shade will proof more effective to prevent flair.

Near zero distortion and excellent resolution for close objects are the important features for this lens.
Like the 120 S-Planar the 135 S-Planar is a much undervalued lens.
I bought my last 120 S-Planar for 125 euro. That is less than 200 USD.

KEH Comes Through Again

Just purchased a BGN 135mm F5.6 Zeiss S-Planar from KEH. Not a T*, to go with my Hasselblad Manual Bellows, Bellows Lenshood, and Double Cable Release. I also have a square black Compendium Mask, which slides into the front of the Lenshood.

This one I will use quite a bit, I think. I now have a nearly complete set of all the original lenses, just missing the 30mm Distagon, and the 500mm Tele-Tessar.

Price only $299US.

Hi Daniel. Congratulations on that great macro setup (and lens collection)!

I've always wondered what a BGN condition lens from KEH is like. Could you post a picture of the lens here? I've bought alot of equipment from KEH, but never anything less than EX+. They do have a great return policy, so there's not much risk if the lens isn't up to expectations.

Gary

Yes I should have the lens in my hands by early next week, and I'll post a picture of it here, no problem.

BGN KEH items are often in better condition than you would expect.

OK Here It Is All Put Together.......

The 135mm Bellows lens arrived today, I am impressed by the condition. Glass is perfectly pristine, shutter sounds accurate enough to my ear and eyes, it's a bit dusty in tight corners, like alot of equipment that's older. Has a few very light spots with brassing, like around the front mount. But of course those are hidden by accessories. It's definately a keeper.

Racked completely to minimum extension, it focuses -just- to infinity. I am impressed with how bright and easy-to-see the image through my 500C/M body (with cross screen) is. As bright to look through as any of the other lenses in my system. And I can tightly frame an orchid petal precisely by simply increasing the bellows extension towards the maximum extension amount. Very cool.

This is going to be a fun lens to use and incredibly useful. I will shoot some test 'roids soon and post the results here soon.

Here's the photos I promised of the lens itself, it looks great to me. And also mounted on my 25th Anniversary 500C/M, numbered and signed by Dr. Hasselblad, with all the accessories.

That's a sweet lens you have, and probably one of the best Hasselblad Makro lenses ever made. I doubt it will resolve as well as the 120mm @ infinity, but it should be unbeatable at closer distances.
Next, show us some macro images with it!

Thanks for posting photos of the lens Daniel. It really is in amazing condition for being rated "BGN"!! I'm impressed. Nice macro setup too. Look forward to seeing some images you take with this camera/bellow/lens combination.

OK Here Are Some Quick Tests - 135mm F5.6 Planar-S

First two, (in my studio), Broncolor Hazylight (camera left), 4x8' Foamcore panel (camera right). Both just out of camera range. Just using the modeling light, no strobe.

25th Anniversary 500C/M, Hasselblad Polaroid Backs.

First 'roid, Fuji 100 B&W, moderate closeup range, 4 secs F22.

Second 'roid, Fuji 100 B&W, approx 1:1.5X bellows extension, just a bit less than maximum bellows extension, F45 for one minute.

Third 'roid, (shot out my back window), just a bit less than infinity focus, Fuji 100 Color, 1/60 at F32.

I like this lens alot!

Later, -Dan

Interestingly the previous owner of my Manual Bellows had removed the rear lens mounting ring, and reset it at a 45 degree angle. Why did he do this, I have asked myself? The answer, to work with the 500 EL/M on the Manual Bellows! With the camera body set at a 45 degree angle the EL/M body will easily clear the Manual Bellows assembly, even to infinity. Very Clever.

But I am a purist, so yesterday I removed the rear mount, and reset the lens mount, back into it's original position. Only took about fifteen minutes to do. Now it locks tightly (and clicks) on my two 500C/Ms.

Looking forward to getting out with this gem (and shooting film) when it warms up, in the springtime. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH SNOW AROUND HERE.

Ok, enough with the polaroids! Let's get some "real" film in there, then post some images taken with the 135.
It's the only lens in the V arsenal that I'd still like to own. I owned a CT* years ago, but sold it and the bellows, for what stupid reason I can't remember.
I'd love to see some of your images taken with it. (Please!)

I'm Working On It! :)

I'm saving my pennies for a good scanner, I have an -old- ACER 1240UT but it dosen't have the resolution for 6x6. Works OK for 5x7 though.

I'll get some images posted here as soon as possible. Lovely lens, especially now that I have fixed the Manual Bellows.

OK One Last Polaroid.................

This little guy lives in my basement. I thought this is a good opportunity to dust off the Norman 200b Powerpack and the Hasselblad Ringlight. This is F32-45 with maximum manual bellows extension with the Planar-S 135mm F5.6, and a full 200 watt-seconds through the ringlight. I am pleased with the result.

EI 100 Fuji 100C color instant film. Exposure looks good to me. Also took a number of film frames on Maco UP100 EI 100 B&W film, still looking for a deal on a scanner.
