Interchangeability?

I'm getting ready to buy my first Hasselblad, a V-System - 500, and would like to confirm that bodies, viewfinders, lenses and magazines are interchangeable from the earliest 500 C to the latest 501 CM. I understand that there are good reasons to prefer the later versions, but I'd like to verify that buying a good 500 C with a C lens and a 12 magazine, if that's what turns up, would not leave me with an "orphan."

Well, basically: yes, this will work :) The V-series probably has one of the longest, if not the longest, compatibility list, going back to the very first models.

just watch out for early 500C versions: these can't interchange focussing screens. the later 500C's are actually early CM's that have clips on both sides of the FS.

I would prefer a good clean "low mileage" 500C body over an abused unserviced 500 CM. Keep in mind later Acute Matte screens can be fitted to any 500C body by a technician.
Users generally stick with the focussing screen they prefer and do not change screens.

Earl 1970=1971 versions of the 500 CM were still labeled 500C.
Victor Hasselblad did not like to wasre money, he preffered to ise existging st ock of 500C labels before the 500 CM labels were ordered.
