Looking for the elusive 60mm.....

This is the only focal length between 40mm and 250mm that I'm missing and I've been considering the purchase of this lens for months now. If I could have found a CFi or CFE 60mm, I would have pulled the trigger long ago, but it seems I can only find CB 60mm lenses (besides the older CF etc models).

Was there ever a CFi/CFE 60mm lens made? If not, what would be the advantages/disadvantages of buying a CF60 vs a CB60? Call me weird (my wife certainly does), but I kind of like the fact that all of my Hasselblad lenses are CFi or CFE models and I would like the 60mm to be the same, if at all possible.

This is a focal length that I use alot on my 35mm cameras, so I'm sure the 60mm will get alot of use....if I could just find the right one.

Gary

Hello Gary,
there is no CFE 60 mm lens. Zeiss built the following lenses for Hasselblad V:

C 5,6/60 silver
C 4,0/60 silver
C 3,5/60 black T*
CF 3,5/60
CB 3,5/60
CFi 3,5/60

The 3,5/60 variants share the same optics and differ in the barrel/shutter only. Cfi lenses sell usually for much more money than the CF lenses. Regarding quality it is just a matter of taste regarding the ergonomics. I have a 60 mm CF for sale, glass is without marks, just a few minor signs of use on the barrel. Asking 550 Euros.

Not like the 80 CB lens that is optically different the 60 CB uses the same formula and glass as the 60 CF and the 60 CFi lens.
If you like the ergonomics of the CFE/CFi lenses nothing should prevent you from getting a CB lens.

At one time I was going to purchase a 60CB lens but found that it would not work on my 200 & 2000 bodies due to the fact that there is no F ring to open the shutter. A really nice lens but had to pass.

Don

Don is right the largest difference between CB lenses and their CF/CFE/CFi counterparts is the missing F mode.

Of course this is only important for users of 2000 and 200 series bodies.
I would recommend CFE or FE lenses for owners of 200 series bodies.
Those lenses give full acces to the light metering systems of those cameras.

Well, although I'd prefer to find a CFi 60mm lens, I guess if I can't find something soon I'll go for the CB 60, since I don't expect to ever buy a 20x series body. The CB 60mm seems readily available (KEH has a few in stock now, at reasonable prices). Thanks for the info everyone.

Found one! Today I sent Marc Williams (Fotografz) a payment for his mint 60/3.5 CFi....AND....his mint CF 350/f5.6 lens.

Some of you may remember Marc's post last winter re "out and about" with his CF350. I never forgot that lens.

Santa Claus is coming early this year! :z04_9856:

Gary, I too lusted for a 60mm. It is actually a hard lens to find used - in CFi, CF or CB variant.

It seems it was always regarded as one of the stellar Zeiss lenses, so those bought rarely leave their owners' hands!

It took me 2 years to find a mint version CF, which I really love using. If I were hunting for one again, I'd do the same as I did - buy the first top quality one I could buy regardless of CF or CFi variant (because one day I hope to acquire a 200 series camera and want the F mode available).

Congratulations Gary,

60 and 350 are good focal lengths to have and rather rare.
Knowing Marc you will get the best from the best.

My 60CF is my most used and favorite lens in my V System kit. I also have:

50CFi
80CFE
150CF

Would like to upgrade to the 60CFi, someday, for the improved ergonomics.

Yes, I feel VERY fortunate to have found these lenses in Marc's collection....they are truly the best. I bought a Canon EOS 1V from Marc a few months ago that looked like it just came out of the box and is a wonderful 35mm film camera.

Now if I can just pull together the funds to buy some of his other V-series kit that will be on the market soon. :)

What a beauty! I'm afraid a 30mm CF/CFi is likely to be out of my price range for awhile. Looks like they run between $3,000 and $4,000 USD.

I think at the tele end of the spectrum, I will stop with the CF 350. I only really bought this one because it was from Marc and couldn't pass it up. I have a wonderful 300mm EDIF lens for my Pentax 67 that doesn't get used very often.

I'm sure the CFi 60mm will be getting alot of use....by all accounts here, it is a wonderful performer and superb focal length.
