Need Professional Opinions on Gear

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and honestly, new to film. I have been shooting with Digital for 7 years now, but am interested in MF. So, that's me.

I need help estimating the value of a family friend's grandfather's camera collection. Not having much experience or real knowledge for film, I thought I should ask each of you. If you could price out each item individually or as a complete collection, I would appreciate it very much!!

All gear is likely 25+ years old but is in excellent condition. It was probably only used a few times by the original owner.

Hasselblad 500C/M with original manual

Carl Zeiss 30 mm fisheye f3.5
Carl Zeiss 50 mm f4.0
Carl Zeiss 80 mm f2.8
Carl Zeiss 135 mm f5.6 (maybe macro, haven't seen it myself)
Carl Zeiss 150 mm f4.0
Carl Zeiss 500 mm f8.0

Gossen Luna-Pro light meter
Set of Hasselblad lens filters
Gitzo tripod
Camera strap
Leather case
Book - "The Hasselblad Way"

Best thing you can do is go to keh.com and compare the kit with what's listed there.
You need to see the kit as condition makes a big difference to the price, and to work out if the lenses are C or CF type.

However you should first persuade them to let you trial the 500c/m plus 80 for couple of weeks; you will like it.
Then buy some of the outfit for yourself at the Keh 'sell your gear' prices and send the rest off on behalf of the family.

It is worth noting that HB kit likes to be serviced on occasion, even (or maybe, even more so) when it has been idle for the best part of its existence.

Things like helicoid grease that gums up making focusing stiff, shutters that get 'slow', especially on the long shutter times etc are typical.

So most likely you have to factor in some $$ for service.

Thank you both for your replies and thoughts. From your recommendations and my research, I am quickly learning there are many factors that need to be considered - more than the details listed above.

I will attempt to find out additional details pertinent to the camera and equipment, and reply back when I know more. However, in the meanwhile, please feel free to add additional thoughts or remarks.

Thanks everyone! The money is supposed to help take care of my friend's widowed grandmother and I just want to make sure she is not taken advantage of.

You might want to take some photos of the gear and post them to the forum.

I gather you have noticed the forum has a Classifieds section? That might be an option when selling this equipment. At least the forum is totally free, unlike evilBay ;-) that takes % commision [mind, you, eBay has to make money too, I am not arguing that ]
