Very impressive! 1985 and 2004.....wow!!! Ilford FP-4 was my "go to" film for many, many years.

Oh yes....the Xpan too. )

congratulations for your new treasure! That's long living chemistry. Was the film kept frozen over the years? I have some meters of old Agfapan 25 here somewhere, kept dry but at room temperature in our institute. Good thing is it was diposed off to me together with a Leica MDa.

Thanks! The film has been in the fridge (cooled) and frozen. But my experience with expired B/W is good, even when not kept cold. Kept at a reasonable room temperature and dry B/W films last long. Especially the slower ones. AgfaPan 100 of about 1985 proved also fine. Slow films are best I think.

As for the Rodinal: that stuff turns the color of very strong tea for the concentrated form. When diluted 1+25 or 1+50 it looks like weaker tea. But it just works, I don't think Rodinal is due to really go bad until 1-1.5 decades after production. (Compare that to your average DSLR )

Leica MDa... oh, a 1950s Leica.... NICE! Did it come with a lens?

no, this Leica MDa was made in 1968, it is basically a M4 without viewfinder. It was used on a repro stand, combined with bellows and a Focotar (enlarger) lens. The MDa is currently beeing serviced. I am in the market for a Zeiss ZM 4,5/21 mm lens to make it a "35 mm-SWC".

There are a couple of "quirks" with the XPan, which are worth noting so that they don't bug you when you run into them.

1. The light meter in EV mode is limited in relatively low light - causing an error message to occur at surprising times. This is because the meter is limited to about +2EV to 19EV (or something like that). I thought my camera had a fault when it surprisingly threw up the E message - Hasselblad explined the metering limitations, so I tested it and the maths worked out correct. No bother to me since I use manual more in low light and a hand held meter. But it is surprising since much lesser cameras have a wider metering range.

2. At the other end, when the exposure exceeds the 1/1000 sec shutter speed, the camera (XPan v1) will not warn you - just display a + symbol in the viewfinder after the shot. At least you know to shoot again!

3. When shooting the 45mm or the 30mm and the scene has a range of light variations, you need some care on where you meter from in the very wide frame.

But quirks aside, the XPan is WONDERFUL and I'll never let mine go!
