No X on my 80 planar for flash?

lbarbish

New Member
I just bought a new planar 80 lens. Bu serial number it was produced in 1985. My old one had an X for when I was using flash. This one doesn't. Any advice on using a flash with this lens? I am using my SB 800 Nikon flash. Shooting 160 film. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Reading is a virtue..

Would be nice if everybody would read their Hasselblad user manuals and
whatnot first before asking questions on this forum. Really, there is a lot of very useful information in there.

There is no reason not to: register (for free) at www.hasselblad.se and download the docu in case you did not receive it with your equipment.

MXV logic

C series lenses from 1956 till 1982 when CF models gradually took over had a three way selector for flash and delayed release of the shutter.

1. M is meant for delayed shutter operation to allow old fashioned one time use bulbs to reach their full output for the exposure.

2. X is for electronic flash

3. V is delayed shutter operation by about 10 seconds
V comes from the German word Vorlauf.

Both M and V options were no longer available with the introduction of CF lenses.

Much thanks to terrydent and polypal for your answers. My first 80 lens was an old one with the M X V settings and they conform to my manual that I have read extensively and read anytime I am in doubt about something. So I was confused when I got my newer 80 lens and it did not have what conformed to my manual, which I have read throughly and refer to often. I shot with the fash last night but now have to finish the roll and get them developed to see if I have set the flash properly. I did read my flash manual by the way so expect they will come out great.

Well, about 15 years ago my CF 60mm has problem with flashs and had to repair it. At ths time 80% of pictures made wth haseelblad were taken with flash.
I don't understand why you need to finish the roll as it's possible to remove the film back and watch what's happen.

Ha Ha. Thanks blowupster. Yes, if I had more than one back I could swap backs. But I am refering to needing to develop the roll to see if I have the flash set up right. If I set the flash with the right ISO, and set it for the right apperture and distance then I think I am OK. But I am not sure if I am doing it right. I've owned the flash for a few years and it was always set to ttl for my digital and my F100 film camera so I've never used it on manual like this. Thanks for the input.

If your torch has TTL mode it probably also offers auto mode. Most torches perform excellently in auto mode.
