Please can we ban the word Hassy from this site?

Sorry BigSteveG and others, I'm not for banning anything, but my 50 year love affair with the Hasselblad camera system has lead me to feel a beautifully engineered
camera system deserves the respect its full name delivers.
Feel free to put wide wheels and go-faster strips on your Chevrolet and drive your Chevvy to the levy but please call a Hasselblad a Hasselblad.

Mini rant over, I'll get back in my box.

Happy New year every body.:)

Hear you @superwhite , but I also think sometimes writing ’Hasselblad’ 5 or 6 times in a post can slow down the flow of thoughts. At least for me. For example, I know that the 120CF lens is a Makro-Planar f/4 120mm CF, but I probably won’t write that. Short-hand is not a bad thing or disrespectful, IMHO. It is just easy to write.

Happy New Year back and hope your shots come out even better in 2024! :)

Writing the word/name 'HASSELBLAD' several rimes in a post should not be a problem not for the imagined slow down nor the so called lost of time and as we are not in court...
Who would write Nik. instead of NIKON or Pen. for PENTAX? But you are right, these names are somewhat shorter, but what is wrong with writing 2 to 3 more letters anyway?
And, this is even more important, Hasselblad is the name of a person, a family actually: Victor Hasselblad, and, to my humble opinion , Mister Victor Hasselblad earns our respect.

The same goes for Carl Zeiss, Oscar Barnack, Ernest Leitz, Joseph Petzval, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Theodor Scheimpflug and so many others!

BTW, analogue photography is, again to the humble opinion (of a Hasselblad user since 1981), 'slow photography', compared to that 'digital thing' (to which I am not reluctant at all)...

I wish you all the possible happiness for 2024!

LOL, this is an interesting discussion that we should spell out “Hasselblad“ out of respect, but several of these posts do not contain complete sentences with subjects and verbs; and use shorthand abbreviations for other words (Just like I used LOL!).

That’s my point, we shouldn’t worry about how we spell the words, but instead let’s learn from each other and share knowledge!

I also agree that medium format photography is slow, and that is what I love so much about it! It is intentional…

I am really looking forward to 2024 and spending more time taking photographs! Best to everyone…

Been using Hasselblad for more than 55 years. Still own 4 B'lads (no apology) and god knows how many lenses and backs.
Seriously, what is the problem with abbreviations? The world abounds with them. Think of your own name. Are you always addressed by everyone using the full terminology of your name? Many of us are not. Not an issue. But then, I'm an Aussie and we are renowned foe shortening and abbreviating all types of words. With respect, I say get used to it. Feel free to use full words if that is your preference. I don't mind.

It is not the abbreviation as such that is the problem, simply a persons's family name is not abbreviated, that is what I was taught (perhaps it has to do with my Catholic upbringing...).
But you are right, a man is free...

Hi Imageman. B’lad is an abbreviation which I have probably used over the years.
The term I’m referring to is not.

Happy New Year

G'day (another abbreviation, sorry) superwhite.
I'm comfortable with what ever suits the writer, providing it communicates. Best form of communication, IMHO, is photos, but that can be challenging too. :)

Sorry imageman and others, the LMAO (oops, an abbreviation) emoji didn’t appear on my last response.
I have nothing against abbreviations especially with predictive text filling in the monster word “abbreviation “
Starting this thread has been an object lesson in how a minor peeve can turn in to a punch up with a missing emoji, and what an abbreviation really is (I had to look it up, Blad is one, Hassy isn’t, I think )

As Twixmas is over let’s stop this jolly banter and go take some pix (oops)

Happy New One.

@superwhite, LOL. I am actually headed to Antarctica this weekend and I am trying desparately to figure out how to get at least the super wide body into my kit. The 17 pound limit on the last flight is a tough one. I am taking the Hasselblad X2D with the 38 and 55 and as luck would have it, the R>X adapter with a Leica R APO 180 f/2.8 and an APO 2x extender. Because I can fit some Leica R glass on it, I am probably relinqued to taking an old Leica R9 and some 35mm film.

However, I am afraid I will miss the 120 once I return! A few more days to figure it out, but looking forward to taking some serious ’pix’ over the next 2 weeks!

Have a good trip. Do you need to worry about temperature and film or is it summer there?
I know I used to keep my film (and beer) in the studio fridge and bring it up to room temperature before shooting. How does it work in Antarctica or is it not that cold?
just googled it. Mostly 3&4 sub zero with -30 at the pole. Have a fabulous time.

Luckily summertime and I think low 30's. I am winding film by hand - no motor so I am (fingers crossed) thinking that will work. I will put the camera in the bag inside and wait awhile to take it out to hopefully avoid condensation on the camera. Will post a few here when done!!

I packed my 'regular' camera bag, a Billingham, inside a Pelican Case for transport on flights when going to Antarctica. I left the pelican on board ship and took the Billingham on Zodiac trips and foot excursions. Worked perfectly.

I simply type hx and my iPad replaces the text for me. So BAN Hassy…it’s quite ugly.
You are free to spell etc how you wish, but I think expecting others to conform to your rules is a tad autocratic.
I direct you to the Leica Users Forum where every lens type has an accepted shortened name. e. Summicron = Cron; Sumilux= Lux; Noctilux= Noct. . . .
Leica themselves use it also. many more examples abound but I am sure you get my point. I will still happily read your posts when fully and correctly spelled. I have no issue there.

you’re quoting me, but I’m not trying to lay down rules, and not the thread starter.
Perhaps you just misunderstood my post.
I“I simply type hx and my iPad replaces the text for me. So BAN Hassy…it’s quite ugly“
Text replacement is exactly that. When I type hx the iPhone immediately replaces it with Hasselblad. It’s not a rule. I’m simply suggesting that it’s not onerous to use the correct full name and that automatic text replacement is a simple way to achieve that.

Well declaring 'BAN Hassy' sounds like a rule to me. Frankly my often used/preferred word is 'B'lad', but you probably won't like that either. Since I don't have an iPad typing hx probably won't work for me anyway. please continue to type hx, and I will continue to type whatever occurs to me at any time. It's called freedom of expression.
Oh, and please don't use the ugly word in the same sentence as one of my favourite cameras. It may be offended. :)
