ProFlash 4504 Electronic Flash compatible for Hasselblad 503cx?

Hi All,

I've recently started thinking about using the 503cx with a flash, and just wondering if the ProFlash 4504 Electronic Flash is compatible with the 503cx body?

Also, does anyone know if the flash is able to trigger optical slaved strobes in studio?

Well I was surprised how good are the flash dedicated for Hasselblad. I used slide film and rarely have bad exposure. With the CFV the sensor is complitely differnet and thisfor the results are not good and not the same pictures to pictures. But with digital photography, you get a potential flash meter on the sceen of your digital back. The Metz flash have partial power in M mode. For other old flash you may use W (inder) mode. Unhapily the D40 is usable only in TTL or full power manual…I sold it years ago.
Slave mode in studio works not so bad but need that the master flash is IR type or deliver enought power, that's not so practical. I realy prefer low cost radio trigger that may be used outside with mixed light.
These day I succed to fire the ELX and 503cw+winder with radio flash trigger, for more efficient than the dedicassed IR remote sold with the 503 winder (that does not allways works in studio)
The best complement for the Hasselblad flash is the "Nikon SB-26" strobe that have a slave mode included and have a "flash Delay mode" too. It means that the Nikon flash wait the end of the main flash to fire. So the "hasselbald flash" light clasicaly and the Nikon may be used to light the ground or other parts separatly.
These weeks I succed to fitt a poor macro-ring flash (power is only …5 meters) on my 100mm/3.5 it will allow by sunny day to get white spot in the eyes, reduce contrast and help when poeple wears hats. Hope to use it this week-end for the anual medieval festival in Geneva.

Hmm, that's interesting I didn't think of those issues thanks for mentioning them.

You mentioned you fired a radio trigger with your 503cw, would it be the same set up with the 503cx? I've seen it done with a pocket wizard before online but I couldn't tell what V body he was using, or how the pocket wizard was actually connected.

I really appreciate the input btw.

In fact it's not the 503cw witch is connected but the winder of the 503cw. There is a conector for a wire remote contrôle that I used for the flash radio reciever that is only a trigger in fact.

I did the same with a ELX body. I did not succed with the motorized 203FE, perhaps I will modify the 503cw winder to fitt to the 203FE, but I preffer the 203FE winder (witch may not fitt the 503cw !).

BTW, anyone know where to buy new wire between the proflash and the body of the camera. Mine is 60% "biodecomposed" and the one of a friend is 85%.

Flash control using reflected light from the film is very reliable but it does not work so well with digital because the CCD does not reflect light the same way. There is no way that I know of to change this but with digital you can check the image and adjust the exposure.

With the CFV the sensor is complitely differnet and thisfor the results are not good and not the same pictures to pictures. But with digital photography, you get a potential flash meter on the sceen of your digital back.
