Repalcing a HHD on Image bank 40Gb

Hi
I have a H1D with a 40gb image bank... Recently the hard disk drive on the unit stopped working... the drive was the issue. at the time I got my hands on a old 40 GB drive and replaced it with the broken one and hey presto it worked... now the replacement drive I used had windows installed on it and by chance it was a Hitachi Travelstar as well ( this is the same brand the was originally in my unit) Based on this success. I decide to buy a brand new 80GB drive and install this ( As I was not sure what space was left on my second hand replacement and also I was worried about the age of the drive).

The replacemnt drive was a segate... not Hitachi. Now the probelm I have is that the 80GB will not be seen by Phocus and I can't really understand why. So my questions are

1) Has anybody ever replace a HDD on one of these units and have they had success
2) Can I force Phocus to format the drive
3) Is it a special format required

Any help or guidance would be appericated... Hasselblad uk want over 500 sterling to fix the thing. But I know I can get a replacement drive for 35 sterling I am an electroinc engineer so it doesn't bother me pulling the thing apart, but I just can't figure out why this drive will not be seen...

Many thanks

Do you suppose there are hidden files/drivers installed on the drive itself? If so, perhaps you could clone the old drive onto the new drive and see if that works. I'm interested in this approach myself, mostly with plans to switch an SSD into the ImageBank II :)

I've thought f this myself especially as I have a spare 64GB SSD but you have to remember that the age of the ImageBank would suggest that it almost certainly has an IDE connection whereas the SSD will certainly have a SATA connection and whilst there are SATA to IDE adapters they are quite bulky and add a bit to the length of the space required and there may not be space in the housing for it.
