Ringflash suggestions for H3Dii-50

I have a new H3Dii-50 and am looking for a suggestion on a ring flash for it. Everything I'm finding is too small. Anyone have a suggestion on one that works for them?

Thanks in advance!

Ringflash for H series lenses

Welcome at hasselbladinfo forum!

As far as I know there is no dedicated ringflash available for H series lenses.

At the Photokina I watched two guys at the Hasselblad stand do an act with something they were cooking in a pan.
Various stages of this brew were recorded using a large handheld ringflash with the lens from an H series camera peeking through that oversize ringflash.
I have no idea what brand the ringflash was however.

The only dedicated ringflash for Hasselblad was made 40 yaers ago for C series lenses.
Unless you want to go back in time with lenses there is no fitting solution of the shelf available.

RingFlash

Yeah, the frustrating part is that I've seen photos of folks using some with the H3Dii and for the life of me I can't find one. Even sent an unanswered email to Hasselblad trying to see if they knew of one, hopefully someone here might know of a solution.

Thanks again

The Hensel

Wow, that looks like the one I saw....and at only about $4k for the flash+power supply it looks like Hasselblad once again "got me" in the pocketbook. Crap. Anyone have a used one they aren't doing anything with they'd like to sell at a smokin' deal?

Hasselblad?

I guess you mean Hensel.
Maybe the Profoto ringflash is available at a more modest price.

....not a typo

I guess you mean Hensel..
No, what I meant was once again, Hasselblad got me! Meaning, since I own a Hasselblad, nothing for it can be normal, easy, or inexpensive....due to my choice (love the choice by the way) my Hassaddiction is gonna hit me right where it hurts, in the wallet. If I'd just stuck with Nikon I could have a ring flash for $500.....grrrrrrr.
: )

I have and use both the Profoto and Hensel Ring Flash with my H3D.

The Profoto is good for studio applications using it's tripod mount, but the Hensel beats it by a good margin when shooting handheld like for fashion applications, etc. The Hensel is a carbon fiber structure with a handle built-in. I use this with a Hensel Porty which has a radio control trigger that allows control of light output at the camera without returning to the generator box each time an adjustment is needed.

Also, Hensel makes a nifty Octa Sun Haze softbox for their ringlight.

I'm using an Elinchrom Ranger 1500 on my H3 - looks identical to the Hensel (made by Elinca?). Handles beautifully - and worked out of the box with skyport triggers. Like the look of the Sun Haze... thanks for posting

Elinchrom

i am working with the elinchrom ringflash.
the elinchrom and the hensel are exactly the same.
so one can use the hensel beauty-reflectores on the elinchrom flash.
mounting the camera on the flash is simple, but the large body of the H3D makes it not so easy as with canon cameras etc...
the inner diameter of the ringflash is 100mm so check your lenses...
the 120mm macro is fine with the ringflash.
i tryed to work with the 50-110mm and the flash but this is to close.

the inner diameter of the profoto is 100mm too.
the profoto ringflash 2 has a modeling light included, this is a good feature.

i appreciate working with the ringflash very much.

The Nikon ring flash and the Hensel, Elinchrom or Profoto ring flash are completely different things. The only thing they have in common is the word "ring".

Think of it this way ... the Nikon ring flash is like a SB800 compared to a 1200 w/s studio strobe.

If you want a weak little ring flash for your Hasselblad, you can use the Nikon one if the opening is big enough to get your H/C lens through it ... it just won't be TTL like it is on a Nikon.

Hensel, Elinchrom and Profoto have nothing to do with Hasselblad ... you can use their ring flashes with any camera ... including a Nikon.
