There is not much information about Opton marked lenses.
Carl Zeiss Oberkochen and Carl Zeiss Jena were fighting a legal battle after WW II.
Both companies have a right to use the name Zeiss.
CZ Jena disputed this right for all products sold in Russian states and former DDR.
That is the reason CZ products from Oberkochen were sold in those countries as Opton lenses .
OPton serial numbers mostly start with 258 or 259.
First digits 259 can also mean it concerns prototypes or preproduction lenses.
Carl Zeiss Oberkochen itself does keep some record of its lenses. If you send them the details of your lens (eg serial number, name, focal length etc), they can tell you approximately when it was produced.
You may send an email to them through their website under "E-mail Request" at http://www.zeiss.de/archive. It usually takes them one or two days to reply.
