Dear Hasselbladinfo.com members, dear Medium Format users,

times are changing for the good!

As you know, I offered with Hasselbladinfo.com for 10 years a home for all Hasselblad fans. From 2003 until 2013. Always for free. It was the biggest Hasselblad community at that time.

Because Hasselblad changed its product strategy and sold Sony products at enormous prices under different name, Hasselblad fans turned their back to Hasselblad and started looking elsewhere either for Medium Format or for smaller sensor sizes.

There was no proportionate cost/benefit ratio anymore to keep that forum open. At that time, it looked like Medium Format will just die.

To run a brand-community for free, if there is no interest in that brand anymore and to continue to invest time and money in that forum just did not make sense. So I closed Hasselbladinfo.com.

To make sure, that all that content does not get lost, I imported all content into the brand independent camera-info.com, so all users have still access to it.

But times are changing now. Within the last 5 years since our shutdown, Hasselblad made a 180 degree shift in its strategy. They stopped the Sony adventure, launched the mirrorless X1D, updated the H1 line and offered adapters for V lenses for their new mirrorless system.

At the same time another player showed up. Fujifilm launched its own Medium Format system with the GFX50s at a very aggressive price and delivered in record time many lenses for it.

Also Leica updated its Medium Format range.

So as you can see, we have now a totally different market place. In 2013 everybody thought, Medium Format is “history”. No, it is not. We have in 2018 more products than ever before with very aggressive pricing. There are even rumors that new MF bodies will come soon at even lower prices than before.

That means that we will come (hopefully soon) at a point, at which also “the rest of us” are able to afford digital Medium Format and even better, we will have enough choice.

Looking at all these changes I decided to open a new forum for Medium Format.

But this time not for Hasselblad gear only. This time it will be a new home for all Medium Format brands. Analogue and Digital.

But how can I underline this commitment for Medium Format and for all brands? It is a niche market. Not that many players. It is like a small family. Therefore I have chosen a domain name for this new community, which shall mirror this. The Medium Format market is nowadays like a small family.

The domain name is therefore MediumFormat.family

This is a family of old and new Medium Format users. But also for people who are thinking about buying into Medium Format as soon as they can afford it and who need more experienced family members to help them.
The house of this new family is open for everybody as of today. I have still some work around the house, so please bear with me.

The content and all members of Hasselbaldinfo.com with their username, email address and password is there already.

This forum is optimized also for Smartphones. So it will be very easy for you to read and post with your Smartphone, Tablet or PC.

Look at it and tell me in the suggestions forum what you are still missing or what can be improved.

So let's rock this place!
