Use of CFV for night parties pictures ?

Well a week ago I have to take pictures for the annual party. I analysed the pictures made years ago by another one at the same place with a Nikon AF and noticed that 90% of pictures where made with the same issue (thanks to exif info !). So I made the equivalent with this:
blad_aperitif.jpg
A CFV-39 at 400 asa (in artificial light setup) with my 50mm 2.8 motor and flash. As I could analyse the light, I use a filter on a flash to give artificial light to mix with the light of the room. So 90% of my pictures were made at 1/30 F 1/9.5 Flash at M/2 (half power in manual mode) with winder and PME viewfinder. The PME is really a pain to work with as the view is too small to focus correctly but this viewfinder is helpful to handle the SB-27 flash. I never use help for light measure except the histogram of the cfv-39. All pictures were perfect exposed with this manual mode. Most of time I setup the distance to 1.4m and put myself at 1.4m of the subject then I made a picture like this and an other one focussing "TTL". A very good idea to works fast and anyway the set up was not bad at all (80% ok) BTW the problem is not to focus perfect, but to have eyes of couples at the same distance ! I mean that If you have more than one persona on the picture, one is sharp others not as sharp !
The bad point is that a 40mm should have been better with the 36x48mm CFV, and buffer of the CFV is just not fast enough when you use the "speedy" 203 winder.

interesting, I use the same setting (sometimes with a SB-900).
But, i was thinking that TTL don't exist with a CFV. I'm wrong? Do you use TTL-OTF with the SB-27?
Thanks,
S.

Hi,
Would be great if we could see some of the results.
I really have to start saving for a CFV.
Thanks, S.

No TTL !
No Auto mode !
Only Manual setting.
You can chose the power: full power or 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8. In my case I use 1/2 power this time.
I use the cfv histograms as flash metter at the begining and then never change settings.
With this method the light is allways perfect if the distance between flash and subject is allways the same.

In fact with this stange flash, you have reflector in 2 parts. And I use it like you can see on the picture. So the cell of the flash can't works.

I'm not allowed to show any pictures, but the result in 600pixel large will be the same as any pictures made with canikon cameras.

I'm allways surprised in digital time to see ones using only ttl mode or auto mode for flash as manual mode allows you to have exactly the light power needed.

Next month will try to use a Nikon SB-26 with a modifed 4x4 viewfinder for another event all in manual mode too.
