Used Designation "Late" (?)

While looking around for used backs, I noticed a few were stated to be "Late". One I looked at with this designation in the description had a serial number beginning with "RR" which would signify 1988 and although that isn't particularly old, it isn't particularly new either. I've also noticed this with bodies and a few lenses. Does the context "Late" refer to its actual dating or something else?

Because the V system has been around many years, to be exact 61 years now, some parts like film backs have been updated several times.

First generation backs made for 1600F and some 1000F bodies will not fit bodies from the 500 series.
Years 1949 till 1955.
Backs from 1955 till 1968 were of similar construction with peep hole and are compatible with all 500 series cameras.

In 1968 the first real improvement was made with what was called the automatic back.
Loading these backs was much faster due to a crank that could be turned untill frame no 1 was set.

In the mid eighties these backs were improved with a different pressure plate and two brakes to keep the film flat.
The back you are reffering to is of that improved A12 generation.

Finally in 1996 these backs got the dark slide keeper.
Some of us may have been surprised it took Hasselblad nearly 50 years to come up with a solution to store the dark slide.

That is what I call conservative engineering! :z04_carrot: :z04_schlaumeier: :z04_carrot:
