Why I love my 50mm Distagon

C, CF, CFi, CFE.....it probably doesn't matter. I bet these are all great wide angles....so let's see some of yours!

I just got a couple of rolls of Velvia 100 back from the lab today and many of the shots where taken with my 553ELX and CFi 50. All shots were hand held...so sharpness etc could be better. Here are a couple of them.

The transparencies were scanned by the lab at "Base 16", whatever that means. Each image file was about 2048 x 2048 pixels. Not super hi-res, but good enough for a decent print on Letter/A4 size paper. It's a convenient way to get a quick, resonable resolution scan....now I can easily decide which are worth spending time on with my Epson V750.

553ELX and CFi 50mm, Velvia 100, 1/125th at f8 (or it might have been f11).

I sure enjoy using that 553ELX....although I should have had it on a tripod for best results.

And here is a black and white version. I made a Letter/A4 size print for a recent print exchange and another print (on Ilford Gold Fibre Silk paper) for the annual Alaska Photographic Center members show (in December).

Any preference here for the color vs B&W versions?

I really love this lens....not to mention the 553ELX!

I like the B/W print better, probably because B/W gives a dated impression which reminds me
of steam powered trains still active in parts of Europe thirty years ago.

Terrific images! One doesn't usually think of the 50mm for portraits....but you've shown how good these can be with this lens and focal length. Outstanding!

a while back, just this year though, I bought the kit off someone....it was a 500C/M with an A12 back....an 80mm CF lens, a 50mm C, a 150mm C and a 250mm C...a Polaroid back for it....an aluminium case...filters and stuff....a Metz hammer flash with the pack....all for £550 i think i paid...I posted in here at the time.....I got a great deal i think.....
