30mm f.3.5 CFi lense

30mm f.3.5 CFi lens

I have seen a second-hand 30mm CFi lens for sale and it looks in very good condition (but not mint) and comes with the original leather case and filters.

Can anyone guide me as to the current s/hand price for a 30mm CFi?

with thanks, Paul

Hasselblad Forum - Classified

Just seen in the classified section - for sale 30mm CFi in mint condition at $3000 which I guess converts to about £2000 GBP.

Is this the normal asking price for this lens?

The last one I saw was sold by Volksphoto In the US and got 1800 USD.
That lens did not have the full set of filters, it only had the neutral one.
These filters used to be available from Carl Zeiss in Germany at 150 euro each!
I am not sure Zeiss still supplies these as Hasselblad has taken over al spare parts for lenses.

Why not check KEH for a reference?

Thanks Polypal. Just went on KEH website. See 2 CFi(s) offered from c. $3121-3650 and both in excellent condition.

The lens I have seen I would hazard a guess that it is in 80-85% original condition. No outward damage to the lens barrel and minor mark to the lens (which I guess would not impair image quality).

The price of the lens I have seen is £1200.

Would this be a good price for such a lens.

It was not my intention to source a 30mm but having come across it would it be silly not to purchase it at such a price... as I believe they are scarce lens to find?

The other question is are they a practical lense to use other than for a novelty perspective. I have seen some amazing creative images with this lens but not for the landscape photography I am wanting to do.

BUT can I ignore the 30mm becoming part of my Hasselblad kit.

If it is like other very wide angle lenses that I have used, you have to be careful of having your shoes show up in the bottom of the photographs.

I do not think it is usefull to discuss prices in detail because for a reliable valuation you need to have the lens in your hands.

I would not buy a 30 mm lens that did not come complete with filters.
I believe there is a strong posibility those filters are no longer available.
Hasselblad removed them from their stocklist many years ago.
Zeiss has a contract with Hasselblad not to service lenses nor supply spares after september first of last year.

Yes, easily. I would not want anything wider than the 40mm for landscape, specifically not a fishy-eye.

Filters are not the priority for everybody.
You may use "digital filters" too and the filter inside of a lens is not so practical and safe to change everywhere.
The not genty way that Hasselblad let the Hasselblad-Zeiss custumer drive is bad for every lens for V line. not only for this 30mm.
Hard to imagine to spend any $ for a V line, but they sell great on second hand market.

I like the 30mm. Here are a couple shots from this fall. I think good pictures can be made if used with care!

What about the 38mm SWC? That is wider than a 40mm lenses. Would you turn your nose up at that?

Steve

Not necessarily ;) But I do not like the SWC for a different reason: I am hooked on the SLR what-you-see-is-what-you get viewfinders :)

I would like to try the 30mm with the phocus correction. However it's expensive and I'm affraid about the front lens without protection.
If I found here (Switzerland) for about 1'000$ I could buy one to sale the same price later...

I like the swc and use one for one week. Easy to use and funy for street photography. However the focussing is very important and this for the swc is not so usable nowaday as the standard of sharpness is higher.
The 40mm IF is far beter than SWC exept for weight !

Thank you all for valued input on the 30mm CFi lens and to Terry for the images.

I use only film (at the moment) and do not have a digital back.

As Wilko says, a 40mm lens is as wide a lens I need for my landscape kit (with 205FCC) unless I opt for a SWC and 38mm Biogon.

I already have a 40mm f4 Distagon C but want to add a later version; and a 50mm f2.8 F Distagon.

After carefull consideration following this thread I have decided not to go for the 30mm.

The 903 SWC uses the standard B60 filters and lens hoods you have come to know and love.

I was willing to give up the SLR feature for a rectilinearly correct lenses which the 40mm is not.

Steve

Not true.

The Distagon 40mm is a rectilinear corrected lens, just like the Biogon 38mm.

Given that no correction is ever perfect it has to be admitted that the Biogon is better corrected than the Distagon, but that does not make the Distagon not rectilinear corrected. Even the Biogon has some distortion left..

If you want to contrast rectilinear to a non-rectilinear lens you are talking about fish-eye lenses.

Wilko

The 40mm FLE no If has less distortion and MTF curves are litle below compared to the 40mm CFE IF.
However is (far) less expensive.

The new 40 IF has considerable higher resolurion compared to the 40 CF(E) lens.
Distortion is about double compared with the older CF(E) lens.
