40mm CFE vs CFE IF for digital

I am thinking about buying a 40mm lens to use with a 503cw CVF39 back.
Will I notice a difference in overall IQ if I got the less expensive CFE or do I need to get the IF version?

Well, the IF is better in resolution, the "non-IF" is better in distortion. As phocus make correction for distortion, the IF one is a better choise.
Even the 30mm is very interesting with digital

40mm solded...

I have solded my 40mm CFE last month, I found it too bad with CFV-50!
Now, I use the 30mm and I correct the distortion with Phocus, it works great!

Keep in mind the "new" 40 mm IF was designed with digital in mind.
That lens is simply superb for use with high grade digital backs.
