500 C/M works only with some magazines

I have a problem with my 500 C/M. I recently detached the mag to put in a new roll of film, and when I re-attached the magazine the shutter release button remained blocked (I removed the darkslide and checked that the shutter was cocked and the film properly advanced).
To find out what was wrong I attached a friend's mag and it worked, although not perfectly - every time I wanted to take a picture I had to advance the film advance / shutter cocking knob a tiny bit before I could take the first picture.

Anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Tell me if I have to provide more information.

Thanks a lot,
J.

the 500cm has a white/red dot on one of the sides of the camera, an A12 mag will have the same red/white dot, these guides are used to make sure one attaches the film magazine properly. the rule is as follows:

you should attach magazine and camera only when both dots are of the same colour, that means red-red or white-white.

So take the magazine out, release the shutter so it becomes white, then take the magazine open it and close it, advance the film so it becomes white then attach both.

As well try the other way around, red-red

PS. sadly this guide no longer exist on newer models such as the 503CW

The synchronising thing is not the cause for this problem.
Not only later cameras but also later film backs lost the red/white indicator.

The problem with the 500 CM being blocked seems to be inside the camera body.
That is only for the brave at heart better still for a qualified technician to solve.

Film backs may be the cause for a similar problem but then using another back with the camera
will solve the problem pointing at the film back as cause for the problem.

cs_foto, I can get everything to work that way. But inserting and removing the darkslide once ends me up with the shutter blocked. I'd really like to find out whether the problem is with the camera or the mag, since I'd have to mail them to Britain for service (I have a six month guarantee there on these).

Attaching another mag did help a bit, as I wrote before, but not perfectly. Still, it is hard to believe that the camera is faulty, since it works perfectly without a mag attached and the only real connection between the two is the tiny metal rod that checks whether the darkslide is inserted or not (and the cog, of course. but that seems to be fine).

polypal, you are probably right about giving it to a technician.
