Astia vs. color negatives

I am looking into shooting more color, and I want as much dynamic range as possible and subtle colors. However, I don't like color negatives. They are not a pleasure to look at, and I find I have to adjust curves much more when scanning than with transparencies.

Does anyone have an opinion on Fuji Astia versus color negative films like Fuji 160S?

I hear that Astia is the least saturated and has the most range of transparency films. I have previously used Provia 100 with pleasure and Velvia for landscape.

Any help is welcome. Thanks!

never tried Astia, but always wanted to, give it a go! its the only way to know... fuji says that Astia is recommended for Fashion so it might be a bit contrasty..

well exposed colour neg (like 160s) has that soft and subtle dream-like look, i don't think you can achieve the same with a positive but who knows... specially if we are talking about skin tones..

I used Astia a long time ago. I found it compared to other slide films quite less contrasty almost to compare with certain "soft" negative films. I haven't used it as 120 only as 35 mm though.

I liked Astia

Back when I used film, Astia was my favorite. It had more realistic flesh tones for one thing. Velvia I liked the least. Provia was ok but I settled on Astia and it scanned nice.
