At last! A lens for my 500C...

Morning all

At long last I have managed to procure a reasonable lens to use on my 500C; a 150mm f/4 will be in my sticky hands on Sunday. I'm looking forward to being able to use the camera, having cleaned it all over and looked at it lovingly for the past couple of months, thinking about what I shall take photographs of first!

The first outing will be to the Chinese New Year festivities here in London, shortly follewd by some experimenting with portraits in low-light.

We do wish you luck, Jason. You will find the 150mm f4 to be an absolute classic Zeiss lens. It is superbly sharp, relatively lightweight. and very well corrected. I have even used mine for critical copy work with very good results, as well as the obvious landscape and portrait applications. Do try to get the correct lens hood to use with it, though.

Congratulations on your procurement. Hope it brings you the beginning of a long relationship with these timeless cameras/lenses.
Be sure to shoot this lens wide open as well as stopped down. The narrow DOF is great for single subject matter.

Congratulations Jason on this first lens for your camera.

Good advice was given to look for a good shade.

Whatever you do do not fall into the trap of the cheap China replicas.
They are no good, a waste of money.
General advice: do not buy China made focusing screens either, pure rubbish!
Hasselblad gear for V series cameras is made in Sweden or in Germany.

Let me know what lens you found, C series or CF.
I am sure I have a decent shade lying around somewhere.

Hiho all,

Well, the 1981 150/4 C lens works nicely, with the included (correct Hasselblad) hood. :) I even got one of the "quick focus" levers, which is pretty good, though strange to use.

One question...the filter bayonet has a slight "ding" in it, which prevents the fitting of a filter. Is there an accepted way of reshaping this dent, short of sending it to be serviced/repaired?

I used the lens today on the Chinese New Year outing...the only reall issue being that it turns out that the parade and most of the festivities here in London are next week! Hohum.

Removing damage to the front bayonet is best left to an experienced repairman.
It may be necessary to remove the front element of the lens.
