Barrel dimension of 140-280mm / tripod collar

I'm thinking of purchasing a 140-280mm C and would like to purchase a mounting collar to use it on a tripod. I'm concerned about hanging such a long lens in front of the camera with only the mount supporting it.

I've found mounts for the 350mm C with a 70mm inside diameter. Will this work? If not what is the outside diameter of the barrel near the shutter / bayonet mount? Any thoughts on where to find one if it's not 70mm;s?

I've searched and can not locate specs on this lens.

Any thoughts on performance? vs the 250 C T*?

There is (or were) a specific tripod attachement for the Varigon lenses.
