F lenses on 500 body

I was wondering if it's possible to use an f lens on a 500 c/m body. I have a body synch on my early c/m so it can work for flash or if I train myself to be accurate with the rear shutter by hand squeezing the time.

I experimented by taking my CF lenses and putting them in F mode--and also trying in "B" shutter mode.

Results:

the f mode functioned correctly (stopped down for the exposure) BUT the lens resets back to wide open before the back shutter is allowed to close.

the b mode worked just fine.

NOW--is this the proper function of F lenses or an artifact of the f mode on the cf lenses--in other words--if I put a REAL f-only lens on the body, will the aperture still reset before the rear shutter closes?

this is not really an issue for strobe work but if you're timing with smaller apertures, it is.....

anybody have an f lens that they can throw on a 500 body and see what it does when stopped down?

Hello John,

F, FE lenses are for use on 2000 and 200 series focal plane cameras.

C, CB, CF, CFi and CFE are for use on 500 series, this includes Flexbody (with limitations).

While you can attach an F lens to a 500 series camera, you have no way to control exposure; Yes, you can select an aperture but not the shutter speed (time value/duration).
"I train myself to be accurate with the rear shutter by hand squeezing the time." - The purpose of the Auxiliary shutter in the rear of the camera is to keep light from striking the film plane.

Hasselblad included the F function on the CF/CFi/CFE lenses to allow the photographer to dis-engage the central shutter in the lens and use the lens on a 200 series camera. On a 200 series camera, you had the option to set the camera in C mode and use a C type lens on it, the camera would behave as a 500 series would and use now had the option to use flash synch up to 1/500.

like I said

can someone TRY to put an f lens on a 500 camera, stop it down and see what happens--if it opens up again when the aux shutter starts to close like the cf lenses do in "f mode"?--that's what I want to know--how an f lens behaves on a 500 body.
