Film rewind button

In the H3DII_Manual_Supp_V7_UK manual it states that the Film rewind button has been reassigned to format the cf card. Well, not on my camera (HD3 II-31). It did once say "Format?", but not again...that was about 1 hour ago. Press the button..nothing. Disconnect and then re-connect the digital back..press button..nothing. Am I missing something here. I have the latest firmware update installed for the camera (revision 256).

Thanks for your help

David

If my memory serves me right the back is powered by the camera.

Remove the battery wait 2-3 minutes refit the battery and see what happens.
This low tech approach was invented by dummies.
Despite of that it often works quite well.

Paul

OK, did that..now no display at all. Black back. I have a nasty feeling here.

Is there any way that I can set the display on the back back to default values using the grip?

Oh boy, am I glad I am at least 4000 miles from where you are. :z04_smileys26:

It looks like something is seriously wrong at least it needs more expertise than I can give you now.
Did you check the batteries current condition?
Is it fully charged?

Paul

Hi Paul

Yes, the battery is OK, and I have changed it for a fully charged one as well. I can see the display..but it is VERY dim. The back still records images etc, just can't see the menu or image display.

David,

This looks like a case for Paul Claesson and possibly for the service department of Hasselblad.
Give Paul a little time to answer he may be enjoying his free weekeend right now.

I had a H3DII39 that had a Film Rewind (now format card) button that was improperly seated in the camera thus would not work unless you poked it with a pen or pencil or similar sharp object.

This body went to Hasselblad in NJ twice!

The service manager said it was within design specs and told me "too bad the button doesn't work."

I returned the camera and Hasselblad exchanged it with one where the button worked.

For all we know, you could have my old one.

Kind regards,

This does not sound like the answer a client expects after he bought a Hasselblad camera that gave problems.

This attitude causes far more damage than the service department can save by not exchanging a part that is not up to spec.

The funny part was Fotocare in NYC didn't give a sh?t and when it came back to them and still didn't work, they gave be a stylus pen from a Leaf back to use to push the Film Rewind button!!!

FYI: I use the Film Rewind button every day I shoot to immediately setup a fresh/bank CF card. Very good idea to reprogram it.

Kind regards,
Derek

Thanks for that Derek.
A slight development: using a bright torch at an oblique angle, I can see the dim display. Going to Settings->Display I can see the Contrast and the Brightness controls..but the Timeout setting is completely missing. I wonder whether this is the problem? If the Timeout is set to 0 then the display will never come on. But, a) how did it get lost from the menu, and b) how do I get it back?

Thanks all.
Regards
David

Later: Further..if I set the contrast and brightness to, say, 9, when I power down, these setting revert to 5. Also, my Sound ->Key Click is set to Off. If I set it to On, then power down, it reverts to Off. This sounds like a software problem to me.

Derek. My Film Rewind button now works OK, every time I press it I can see it asking me if I want to reformat my card. No pencil required.

Hopefully Paul will catch onto this thread and offer some guidance on this issue. He has always been great and very helpful. Perhaps you can PM or email him? I hope all is ok.

Kind regards,
Derek

OK all: Update. Took it to Hasselblad and the service engineer said that the LED has gone..faulty unit, and that he has never seen that happen before. So now it is being sent to Denmark to be fixed. Thank goodness it is still under warranty!

Best regards

LEDs are indeed failing only very very rarely. Strange. And annoying.

Hi David

I have to ask this. Is it possible that you may have inadvertently pressed the "i" button and changed the display option on the digital magazine?
There are 5 diffferent options and one is dark screen, no image, this is to conserve battery power.

I believe the Menu Location on the digital magazine is: Settings-> User Interface > Display
The Contrast and the Brightness controls can be set from 0 to 10.

"..but the Timeout setting is completely missing." I don't ever recall there being a timeout function here.

There is a "Standby Timeout" custom option #1 for the H body. It is very easy to access. Press the Menu button on the top of the grip and then press the User button on the rear of the grip and use the front wheel to scroll to to #1, options are 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds. This means if you set the camera for default of 10 seconds, the camera will go to sleep to conserve battery power.

David,

Mails has crossed. I am glad you brought it to Hasselblad UK and that they are taking care of you.

Thanks Paul. Yes, took it to Hasselblad UK and they confirmed that it is faulty. They will ship it to Denmark for repair.
I will let you all know of the outcome when I get my camera back. Missing it already!

David

BTW Paul: Page 8 of the H3DII_Manual_Supp_V7_UK shows the TimeOut menu option for the H3. Can't say that I have ever noticed it in real life either as I rarely play around with the defaults of the back.
