Hasselblad Outdoor PR Shoot.

Hi All,

Our Rock Band (my son plays electric bass) is opening for GRAND FUNK RAILROAD in January. We have a new lead singer, so today (after practice) we are doing an outdoor PR photo shoot, at one of the scenic local mansions. We will either be in full-sun or shade, I am guessing. Time to flex my photo muscles, with my Hasselblads.

2-500C/M bodies, with meter prisms. One body has the 350mm F5.6 Tele-Tessar, the other has the 40mm F4 Distgon. I think it will be too cold to use motordrives. Rapid wind cranks and straps on each body, I will wear these.

3- 220 A24 magazines, one loaded with Ilford HP5+, one loaded with Fuji NPH 400 color, the last loaded with Fuji NPZ 800 color. Two extra 220 rolls of each film. One A12 magazine, loaded with Ilford Delta 3200 (rated at 1000) and six extra rolls of 120 Delta 3200.

Lenses- 30mm Distagon Fisheye, 40mm Distagon C, 50mm Distagon C, 60mm Distagon C, 80mm Planar C, 100mm Planar C, 150mm Planar C, 250mm Sonnar C, and 350mm Tele-Tessar C. Everything fits in a Large Billingham Bag. The big fisheye is in it's own leather case, strapped to the outside of the bag.

Small tripod, two meters (spot and incident), two Model 100 Polaroid backs, with Fuji 100 color, and Fuji 100 B&W. Two extra rolls of instant film, also. Instant film will probably have to be developed, inside my warm coat, but I'm willing to give it a go.

It's heavy, but I can set it down. Everything but the kitchen sink. My wife and her friend are covering the digital stuff. Should be fun, and will try to post some photos -here-.

Later,
-Dan

Here is A Test Scan From the Shoot.

Hasselblad 500C/M, 40mm F4 C-Distagon, 220 Tri-X Professional (rated approx EI 200), developed in stock Microdol-X, 13 minutes at 20C, Unicolor Film Drum on Unicolor Uniroller.

An acceptable shot under difficult lighting.

Nice grey tones and saturation.
Could be sharper, handheld?

Yes, handheld, I think it was pushing it in this situation. Left the tripod in the car, I remember at the time thinking I should have used it. Zone-focused via the excellent Hasselblad DOF indicators. It was extremely cold and uncomfortable day, but needed to get this accomplished.

The 40mm is very big, and needs a very fast speed to properly handhold. I was adding extra exposure, because of the difficult light and vast shadow areas. Wanted alot of detail. Would work with a tripod if I did it over.

I too like the old 40 mm C lens design.
One of the advantages over later designs is the clear DOF indicator.
A good result with regards to the circumstances.

It sure scares the Russians :) Impressive piece of glass for sure, not all that practical to transport though.

Hi all long time no see! glad to see the forum going strong!

Daniel: I can see something slightly odd on the grey tones (highlights) on this last pic, what scanner are you using? could it be that you are scanning on grey scale? I will suggest scanning in full RGB and then converting to black and white....

Cheers
