Next lens...which???

Hey all,

Long time ago i didn't post here, and i am still not sure about my experience with film if i want to keep going or not, but it seems because it is still in my first year with it so i will give it more time.

Now my question here is: I am looking for to get a lens for my Hasselblad 501CM and i don't know which one, i have 60mm which is use for wider shots [i may get 50mm but 60mm is doing the job], but now i want a lens for portraits and mostly close-ups, so which lens i should choose, 80mm or 150mm? I may get both but if i have to get one so which one do you recommend me to go with?

Any samples of portraits faces with 80 and 150 to see the difference?

The classic lens for portraits is the 150.

You can use the 80 but only if you want to make wider portrait shots.

The 150 on itself is often not enough and could use an 8 or 10 mm extension ring for close portraits.

MOD is what bothers most users.
A small extension ring overcomes this problem.

Keep in mind most faces benevit from the medium tele effect of the 150 lens.

100mm or 150mm

I have a 100mm and the 150mm and they are both great portrait lenses. I would consider the type of portraits you want to do and how much room you typically have to work with. If in a studio and wanting to do full length portraits you will need more room to back up or a wider lens. If in the field doing environmental portraits you could go either way just depends on what you like. I like to get in tight so I prefer the 150 for head & shoulders but the 100mm is excellent for full length environmental portraits. Either way a long lens will open doors for you and hopefully allow you to get more out of your kit. Good luck.

Ah ok, thank you very much!

Yes, i am after tighter portraits with faces only or face shoulder, maybe until about half body, but i think i want tighter.

I have posted many shots on this forum with both the 80mm and the 150mm....have a look on the B/W threads, portraits and all my other stuff!

This depends on what type of photography you want to do. If you want a selection over the range do you want a 60mm, 100mm [or120mm], 250mm? 60mm, 80mm, 150mm, 250mm? Figure out what you want for your ultimate system and then choose which one of those you would find most useful first.
