Why I love my CF40

("interested in knowing why people would prefer this lens over an SWC?")

Four reasons come to mind -
1. The obvious reason is that the 40 is an interchangeable lens that will fit whatever VSLR body you happen to own & use. It is an integrated part of your Hasselblad V SLR system. Unlike the Biogon (SWC), which is a completely separate camera.
2. The 40, again being an interchangeable lens for the V system, means that you can view the actual image conveniently on whatever viewfinder/prism you have attached to your V body - more accurate than the hotshoe mounted viewfinder supplied with an SWC, and more convenient than removing the back from the SWC to view the scene like one would do on a view camera.
3. Use of a polarizer is more convenient with the 40, again since you can see the actual results through the V SLR's viewfinder/prism.
4. The 40 is priced substantially lower than an SWC.

I had the swc for a trip in Istambul 20 years ago. Very funy and high quality gear. However the focussing help is very important and thisfor I can't imagine to use it with Velvia 50 or digital back. Except for lanscape.
BTW the new 40If seams to be better un FTM curves.
BTW with the 37x49mm sensor of the CFV-39 the 60mm is a wide angle again. Perhaps not so necessary to me to get a 40mm. I will see.

With the Mutar PC, prespective can be corrected using this lens and perspective correction cannot be make with the SWC. I did not think about this when I purchased my SWC. I am still happy with the SWC. Besides, my camera pack is too heavy as it is.

Michael Cothran summed it up perfectly, in my opinion. Just to add my 0,2c I am very fussy about printing whole negatives (Composing in the viewfinder rather than in Photoshop) and whilst I love my SWC/M, I simply cannot guarantee what I see is 100% what I get on the neg. With the 40mm I can.

I simply prefer the SLR over the SWC. I want to see *exactly* what I will be getting on film, not guessing what it will be. This also applies when using filters, especially polfilters.
