("interested in knowing why people would prefer this lens over an SWC?")
Four reasons come to mind -
1. The obvious reason is that the 40 is an interchangeable lens that will fit whatever VSLR body you happen to own & use. It is an integrated part of your Hasselblad V SLR system. Unlike the Biogon (SWC), which is a completely separate camera.
2. The 40, again being an interchangeable lens for the V system, means that you can view the actual image conveniently on whatever viewfinder/prism you have attached to your V body - more accurate than the hotshoe mounted viewfinder supplied with an SWC, and more convenient than removing the back from the SWC to view the scene like one would do on a view camera.
3. Use of a polarizer is more convenient with the 40, again since you can see the actual results through the V SLR's viewfinder/prism.
4. The 40 is priced substantially lower than an SWC.
