Will we ever see V series body shells again

Heck, that would be my top collector camera. >

Wilko:

Well, I guess you could rip off the leathertte and be happy or find a real collectors item, an all plastic V.

Regards:

Gilbert

Mind you, I personally do not find the H an attractive looking camera. Up to the point that if someone gave me one I would probably trade it for V bits. Because I personally find the V a nicer camera.

That said: I do think we are getting a bit overboard here. Its the pictures that matter after all..

Richard, dead right, that Aero8 is certainly not pretty

Marc, so well said - the subtleties under the skin often get missed, just as QG pointed out with the H1/2.

Jurgen makes a good point about the 550's comparative weight that I'd never considered. And yes, having recently added a CW winder to my 503CW (with PM45), gives that body a new found freedon/convenience I'm really enjoying. But it does build up your forearm muscles a bit. However, I love it all the same.

QG, your impeccable attention to detail is very "engaging"

and I enjoy it very much as well as learn from it more often than not!

So well expressed and the minutae of your detail, although so clever, shall not distract me from the true intent and meaning of what I lament

! And I know very well you know my meaning.

Yes, I may even ask Hasselblad why they did not elect to use metalised covers on much of the H1/H2 outer surfaces (if not all). It might be that the plastic used and the colour treatment is indeed more durable. I have heard some XPan I version owners became very unhappy when they found some "paint peel" occuring on the outer metal work. It's said that the paint process was improved for the XPan II.

Leica owners often prefer the "silver chrome" finish to the "black chrome" because that finish is more resistant to wear (there are even those who buy the black chrome and "encourage" the wear back to the brass top plate for personal aesthetic preferences).

But anyway, you know what I mean about the final finish visual impact and feel - the impression left is what matters. Leatherette or leather, matters not if it looks and feels the part as it does on V series cameras.

Take my mother's 1970 Mercedes 280SE that she refused to part with (despite much pressure form my father) until she stopped driving in 1996. Solid timder dash treatment and Mercedes MB Tex (yes vinyl or leatherette) trim - looked and felt the part and remained like new for the 26 years she drove it, despite carting around 8 children

BUT, the answer has just come to mind - the H2 needs carbon fibre outer panels in place of the pastic. Now that would look and feel the part

While looking at the Zeiss web site I noticed the following statements related to Hasselblad systems, which somewhat surprised me. They appeared in the FAQ section:

1. Will Hasselblad allow the V-System to die in the near future?
No. Carl Zeiss is working on new lenses for this system.

2. Why is the new Hasselblad H 1 camera system not equipped with Carl Zeiss lenses?
For this special project Hasselblad needed a partner with a broader capacity than lens design and manufacturing and had to turn to Fuji for that reason.

It will be interesting to see what comes of the first statement; and interesting to hear that Zeiss felt it compelling enough to say something about Fuji's involvement with Hasselblad and the H series.

These statements are not new.I have reading them quite some time ago and you should not believe all they say. There is no need for any new lens for the V-System.So why should they invest money here??Second,i believe that Zeiss would definately be able to develop and produce the new lenses, reqiured for the H-System but i also believe that Hasselblad just did not want to.

I agree Jurgen and felt the same, but I did wonder how long ago Zeiss posted those FAQ's on their site. Happy Christmas and best regards.

Simon , i can not say for shure , but as far as i can remember , at least a year , or even longer . Merry X-MAS and many wonderful V-SYSTEM dreams . Jürgen .
