I think you'll be happy with it. I also purchased it for the protection it offers, including the protection provided by the AirTag. I also suspect it will be my last expensive camera purchase. Being almost 81, it seems optimistic to think I'll wear out the X2D II!

Well, congrats, you have me beat by 12 years ! But yes, I see so much about the X2D2 that I like, I'm really looking forward to my purchase. I have Fuji X-T2 and GFX50Sii setups right now that I have been relatively happy with. I plan on keeping both of them after I purchase the X2D2. Once I've spent some quality time with the Hassy, I can decide if I still want to keep the Fuji gear.

Among many things that I did like about the cage, I thought the AirTag pocket was very ingenious. It just looks like a very well thought out, designed, manufactured and finished product.

Yes, the design and engineering are extraordinary. My second camera is the Canon R5 Mark II, which is much better suited to action shots than the Hassy. Of the two, I find the Hassy far more enjoyable to hold and use. I just wish the 35-100mm lens wasn't backordered.

The vast majority of what I shoot is landscape, mountains in particular. I have zero interest in video and almost no interest in run and gun/sports shooting. Although, I do hear/read that Sony and Canon's focus performance is spectacular. That's very cool, but it isn't a big plus for my needs. If I did shoot fast moving subjects, I'd probably take a long, hard look at Sony.

I'm hoping that by the time I'm ready to order everything, the Hassy 35-100 order backlog will have been fixed. I'm going to try the 35-100 and see if I really need the 20-35. I have the Fuji GF20-35. It's a superb lens, but I don't use it very much. So, the Hassy 35-100 may be the only Hassy lens that I'll ever buy.

I initially ordered the X2D II and the 35-100mm lens, thinking (as you did) that this would be the only lens I would need. As fate would have it, the X2D II purchase was successful, but the lens was backordered. Although the camera body was beautiful, it was useless without a lens. Thus, I've acquired several primes: 28mm, 38mm, 55mm, 70mm, and 90mm. That's probably overkill, but each lens is amazingly good. I've used and enjoyed each of them. I still have my order for the 35-100. When/if it comes through, I don't know if I'll keep the primes.

Yep, and that's exactly what I want to avoid. I've seen where the primes are even slightly better than the 35-100, but I'm just not a prime shooter. I could buy a prime or two if I have to and I probably would, but it's not ideal for my needs.

But yeah, the reality might be that I have no other choice. I did see where someone had a new, still wrapped/in the box 35-100 listed on flea bay and was asking something like $7,200.00 "Buy it Now". I'm even less likely to do something like that........

I also saw that eBay listing. No thanks. I don't like rewarding scammers, and that's a ridiculous price for the lens. I'll just wait and enjoy the primes. In any event, during the cold weather, I'll be doing indoor studio photography and don't need the zoom lens's flexibility.

edit; There is one on auction on flea bay right now. Bidding is up to $4,600.00. Ends in 20 hours. Seller joined eBay on january 6, 2026 and has a feedback score of 3, could be a scam. The listing has eBay's money back guarantee. I've had to use the guarantee (as a buyer) and eBay were always good about promptly refunding me. But, the guarantee is not something I want to rely on as a last line of defense. Also lists the shipping method as UPS Ground for ten dollars and change. There is absolutely no way I'd have it shipped that way.

I put it on my watch list to see what the winning bid is.

Since the weather has been somewhat challenging since I got the camera, I have not shot many landscapes. However, I especially like the 38mm. It's 30mm full-frame equivalent works well for me, and the ability to switch to manual focus is convenient. It (as well as all the lenses) is incredibly sharp. My second favorite for landscapes is the 28mm (22mm full-frame). It's very compact and light, which is a big plus.

My favorite lens is the 90mm (71mm full-frame). I use it in my "studio" (aka, garage). It has the sliding focus ring (like the 38mm) for switching to manual. Of all the primes, I think the 90mm is the sharpest.

I don't recall when I requested the 35-100mm, but it was several months ago.

I neglected to mention that the 90mm lens has a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 sec, all flash-synced. BTW, if I were getting a single prime to use while waiting for the 35-100mm lens, I'd definitely get the 28mm so I wouldn't duplicate the zoom range.
